Should Christian Hip Hop Artist only Promote to Christians?

I had an artist ask me this question a few days ago. What do you think?

I do not think it is biblical to do music with unbelievers(or people that promote lifestyle of sin) if we are to present HOLY music for others to hear..why should we allow them to profit on a christian agenda...would GODGIVEN apparell or Kerusso lets Rocawear sell clothes on thier site???...where do you think the line crosses... do we let people that promote drunkeness, smoking weed, and and straight partying it up on our albums....one of the biggest things that is hurting the church(not the building) today is false converts trying to claim Christ one day and claim a lifestyle of sin the next day...the word says DO NOT GIVE WHAT IS HOLY TO THE DOGS NOR CAST YOUR PEARLS BEFORE SWINE, LEST THEY TRAMPLE THEM UNDER THEIR FEET AND TURN AND TEAR YOU IN PIECES (Matt 7:6)....we are all ministers of the Word of God after conversion(not pastors) so if your ministry allows a unbeliever to speak of a lifestyle of sin...that is wrong and not biblical...Mary Mary letting David Banner on thier album was not right in my eyes...this was nothing more than being a Pastor of a Church letting a Jehovah Witness elder come and preach of the Jesus they know in his chuch as a guest speaker....Christians need to wake up and quit molding to this world cause we are not of it!!!(John 17:14-16)
WELL MY MUZIK ISN'T FOR THE FOLKS THAT ARE READY SAVED, MY MUZIK IS FOR THE STREETS, FOR THE LOST, THE UNSAVED, THE UNHOLY. MY STYLE OF MUZIK IS GOSPEL GRITTY. I SAY WHAT ALOT OF FOLKS ARE SCARED TO SAY. NOW A DAYS, ALOT OF PREACHERS ARE PREACHING TO THE SAVED, BUT WHEN THEY SEE A PERSON IN NEED OUT IN THE WORLD, THEY IGNORE THEM. "OH IT'S JOB MY PROBLEM" JESUS HUNG WITH THE THIEVES, MURDERERS, PROSTITUTES...
I PROMOTE MY MUZIK EVERYWHERE. YOU NEVER NOW, WHO YOU ARE GONNA REACH OR IMPACT WITH YOUR MUZIK.
I DO WHAT THE LORD TELLS ME TO, NO MATTER WHO DOESN'T LIKE IT
WOW! Let's see... where can I start? Every living breathing human being on this planet was born into sin. Not by our choice, but by the choice of the first Adam. No matter how much we want to be right or get our lives right, it's only because of the second Adam (Jesus) that we can become right, in God's eyes. He is THE Gift to this world and the ORIGINAL messenger. Once HE left and ascended to heaven the only way any of us could get saved, or "get it right" (be seen as righteous - in right standing with God and by God) is to accept the Gift HE gave us. BUT... since He's no longer here, in the physical, the ONLY way that is possible is through the testimonies, ministry, of other people who have already accepted His Gift, Christians. So the WORLD, non believers, can ONLY be made aware of God's/His Gift through CHRISTIANS.

"Chef Boy-R-P", you know I told you a little about my testimony a while back. Dude, I didn't grow up in "church" like most "Christians".(I actually had a pastor at TRBC tell me it was unusual to be plucked out of the world today. Something like only 3-5% of people he's counseled had that testimony!) I grew up a hot mess fam. I did what I thought was right according to ME. Smoking, drinking, strip clubs, sex, whatever. As a young buck I used to steal gum, candy, baseball/basketball cards from convenience stores just because I wanted it. I'm not the dirtiest, grimiest cat out there, but I was wrong nonetheless. Some cat passing out tracts or knocking on doors didn't lead me to Christ. I've told cats like that to get the F*%$ out my face because I didn't want what they were selling. A lady almost twice my age used to just talk to me about life. She used to drop dimes about Christ, but it wasn't until I knew she was real and not "plastic" that I started listening to her. This woman been through more than a little, including being a crackhead... and God delivered her through her accepting the Gift of Jesus!

Back to the question. NO!!! If you call yourself a Christian, you shouldn't be making music just for "Christians". I've even told you that I thought Christian rap/ Holy Hip Hop was hot garbage when I first listened to it a couple years back. And truth be told, production and lyrical delivery has stepped up lately, but most Christian Rap is still wack! It's plastic. A lot of cats slang Jesus like they d-boi's. They took Him off the cross and put Him on a stripper pole trying to "make it rain" for themselves.

I see these "critics" on these other forums, Rapzilla, etc., chopping up cats trying to reach the streets being all Legalistic. It's a shame P. They forgot that THEY used to be wretches themselves and someone allowed themselves to used by God to help lead them to Christ. Either that, or maybe they're not really saved? Sound like a Pharisee to me...

Now actually doing songs with a non-believer is something different. Actually as long as the song is on that Jesus tip I think it's cool. Listen, critics... you don't know what's going on behind the scenes before and after a song is recorded. If someone blatantly rejects our God and then all of sudden is on a track with a Christian something happened. Someone got ministered to. Hopefully that non-believer gave their life to Christ. And if they did, PRAISE GOD! EVERYTHING before that moment and after that moment was/is forgiven. Now they got to perfect their faith, not be perfect. Aight man, I'm through. Keep it 100!
It depends on the vision that God gave you. If God gave you a ministry to EVANGELIZE, then you shouldn't be sticking to Christian venues. In fact, why be in Christian venues at all? We don't go to the church sanctuary at random to preach to the lost, we hit the streets. Now if God did not give you a ministry of evangelism, and He has you in a discipleship type position, then work it out in any and every Christian venue that you can. With that in mind, we should be conscious of our content that we put on our projects. The average "heathen" don't know or care about holiness, sins of omission or commission, exegesis, and the like. They just need to know that Jesus' blood saves them, accept it, you got yo spot down, reject it, well, you can just go to hell, literally.
I feel Christian hip hop is ment to witness to those in the world. Its not ment for sunday mornings all the time. We are to go out and useing this style of music helps relate to the unbalevers.
If we do not promote to non-believers, we are not doing our job.
My answer is no. I think we should promote to all an let the people decide what they want to hear. Some holy hip hop sounds really tight and I could see a borderline Christian going all in for Christ through this music. So I say Christian artist should definitely promote to non-christians because really that's what it's all about, souls being saved.
no if we only promote to believers that defeats our Goal to reach a dying world, a person who is well dont need a doctor but a person who is ill do, we fellowship with each other and chill but when its time to reach the world that we most do.
Hi brother Shawn,

I think you may have mis-understood his question. The question was should they "promote to" not "work with" or "promote with" but promote CHH music outside of CHH listeners. The answer is an obvious yes especially in light of it being a tool to spread the Gospel.

Love you brother.

I think that just as God has given the gift of ministry to certain people to save the lost, so did he give certain individuals the gift of powerful worship. It was given to us by HIM. Next, God told us in matthew 28:19 to go into the nations and make disciples of ALL NATIONS. That means GET NON CHRISTIANS TO FOLLOW CHRIST. It's the great commission. Further, there is the parable of the talents in Luke 19:11 where the master left his servants in charge of large sums of money. Two of the three left and invested what thier master had given them, while the other just went and buried it the sand. When the master returned, he was angry at the servant who never used what he was given. God has given the talent of worship to certain individuals, and it shouldn't be wasted. By worshiping Him, His name is exalted... Not only should we be sharing our music with them, but we should be shouting from the rooftops! And I know that even I don't do this sometimes. The gospel is for the Jews, Gentiles, And everyone else... Don't EVER hold back the gifts God gave you!
