been watching videos of gospel rap songs on YouTube, and 1 thing I really don't understand is the fact that in Hero by trip lee, everyone gets a tattoo, which seems a lot like the mark of the beast, and in dum dum by Lecrae and Tedashii, Tedashii basically brags about his 116 tattoo... if in Leviticus, it says clearly that we must not make any markings on our body, why are the videos somewhat encouraging people to get tattoos? just because Christ will forgive us, it doesn't mean we should do it.... the lyrics are very powerful, but a few of the videos seem biblically incorrect... PLEASE GIVE YOUR INPUT. I WILL BE CHECKING REGULARLY

Permalink Reply by Clinton Boshoff on March 14, 2012 at 6:07am i don't think that these gospel rappers are trying to lead people astray, they are worshiping Jesus, but certain things really need to be looked at, and need to be corrected. there are few things that are strange, and i cant just ignore it, but in the end im not following ANY of these rappers, im following JESUS!!!
Permalink Reply by Clinton Boshoff on March 15, 2012 at 1:52pm above is a youtube link to a video of lecrae explaining why he thinks tattoos are ok. i suggest watching it before reading this comment. he talks about the verse in Leviticus, and looks at it in context.... he says that if the law about tattoos still stands, then also anyone who eats red meat, anyone who goes to the barber, and anyone who eats fruit that hasnt been growing for over 4 years is also a sinner. the problem is that the 2 rules about food had been taken away in the new testiment when Paul had the dream about the food being cleaned. secondly, the law about cutting your hair is talking about a certain cut where they would round the corners of the head and mar the corners of their beards to form a celestial globe, which was a pagan practice. think about this for a second... if nobody cut their hair, then why would samson's hair been refferred to as long? why was he told that it was his specific sign of obedience to keep his hair if it was already in the laws of leviticus?
next, Lecrae says that a tattoo is only bad if its done in worship of the dead. this is where the sentence structure is very important, and you should note that in Leviticus, it says "ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." it does not say "ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh nor print any marks upon you for the dead". the part where it refers to the dead does NOT apply to the tattoos. tattoos were forbidden PERIOD.
you don't need to cover your skin with ink to glorify God, that living skin glorifies god better without it! we should stop telling Christians that it is okay to tattoo themselves if its to glorify God. that's like glorifying God by sleeping with as many women as possible... ITS NOT RIGHT! God will forgive, but people need to open their eyes, realize that its wrong and repent. please realize that i am not judging anyone with a tattoo, and i am not trying to get at Lecrae, i am just telling you what God has placed in my heart, without letting it become biased with emotion.
